The airport is 13km (eight miles) southwest of the city centre
and has three terminals (A, B and C). There are daily direct
flights between Barcelona and more than 30 international destinations;
several more destinations are served by less frequent direct
flights. More than 16 million passengers used El Prat in 1998;
to cope with this demand, a third runway and more passenger
terminals are planned for 2004.
Major airlines: Foreign airlines use terminal A. International
flights run by Iberia (IB) - the national
domestic airline - usually come into terminal B. Information

). Other major domestic and international carriers include Air
France, American Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air Lines,
EasyJet, Iberia, Go, KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines,
Lufthansa, Spanair, TWA and Thai Airways International.
Approximate flight times to Barcelona: From London is 2
hours; from New York is 7 hours 30 minutes; from Los Angeles
is 13 hours 5 minutes (plus transfer); from Toronto is 14 hours
10 minutes (plus transfer); and from Sydney is 25 hours 15 minutes
(plus transfer).
Airport facilities: Banco Exterior de Espana and
La Caixa Bank (terminal B) are open Monday to Saturday
0900-1400. Bureaux de change (terminals A and B) are open 0700-2300.
Car hire services are available from Atesa, Avis, Budget,
Europcar, Hertz and National Car Rental. Other facilities
include tourist information desks (tel: (93) 478 4704), a hotel
information desk (terminal B), duty-free shopping (terminal
A), left luggage, post office, lost property, shops, restaurants
and bars. Terminal B has a chemist and 24-hour medical facilities.
Air France, British Airways and Iberia all have
VIP rooms at the airport.
Business facilities: There is a business centre (tel: (93)
478 6799; fax (93) 478 6505), located on the first floor of
terminal B open Monday to Friday 0830-2030. Rooms can be hired
for meetings. Telephone, fax, photocopying and computing services
are available.
Transport to the city: A train leaves the airport for
the city centre every 30 minutes 0630-2300 stopping at Central-Sants
(journey time - 15 minutes), Plaça de Catalunya (journey time
- 20-25 minutes) and Arc de Triomf and Clot-Aragó for connections
to the metro. The fare is Pta310 weekdays or Pta355 at weekends
and public holidays. An Aerobus service to Plaça de Catalunya
runs via Gran Via every 15 minutes weekdays 0600-2400 and every
30 minutes weekends 0630-2400. The fare is Pta485 and can be
paid by credit card. Local buses EA and EN run to Plaça d'Espanya.
They cost Pta145 with the last bus at 0240. Taxis to and from
the airport charge a minimum of Pta1500; the ride to a downtown
hotel will cost about Pta3000 including Pta300 airport supplement.
Taxi ranks are located outside the terminals.
