Barceloneta Beach Barceloneta Beach

Barceloneta is the main beach of Barcelona. It starts almost straight off the Rambla, and stretches past the Port Olympic and the Olympic Village.

The long sandy beach gives travelers by sea, an incredible welcome to the city. In old days it was mainly populated by shipyard workers and fishermen, and the area still holds the mark of the working class.

It can be recommended to take a walk to the Port Olympic and walk along the Barceloneta. The view of Barcelona and the ocean divided by long lines of palms is amazing. When dusk comes, the lighting gives the area a special place in your memory. Never has a sunset been so beautiful.

There are plenty of things to do on the beach besides swim. Windsurfing and kite surfing are popular. You can also enjoy a refreshing drink from one of the many beach huts.

How to get there
The quickest way to get to Barceloneta beach is to catch the yellow line metro and get off at the Barceloneta stop. Turn right on leaving the metro and cross the main roads, continue walking straight for about 10 mins. Barceloneta is the first of the Barcelona Spain beaches and can therefore get quite busy during the summer months.

Alternatively you can walk to Barceloneta from the city centre. It will take you about 20 mins from the end of La Rambla.

If you choose to walk there are some great views en-route. You'll see the "Monument a Colom" a memorial to the great explorer Christopher Columbus. A little further along is the Port de Barcelona, a picturesque port with a beautiful view of the sea and marina.

Icaria Beach Icaria Beach

Nova Icària Beach is 400 m long and is situated in the centre of the city's coastline. A significant amount of the people who frequent Nova Icària live outside Barcelona and many of them are foreigners.

Together with the Bogatell beach, Nova Icària is the beach where visitors stay the longest, possibly because it is considered one of the quietest in the city, frequented mostly by families with children and also groups of friends. Many users go there on foot.

This is one of Barcelona's most diversely equipped beaches, with equipment for several different activities, a game area, a ping-pong table beside the Bogatell breakwater and two volleyball courts at the Olympic Port end.
Nova Icaria is the closest beach to the Port Olimpic and thus the busiest out of the Barcelona beaches north of the Port Olimpic. There is always somebody playing volley in its three volleyball courts and people playing other ball sports on the beach.
The water is always fairly calm, as the beach is protected by the marina.

How to get there
The closest metro station to Nova Icaria beach is Ciutadella Olimpica on the line n. 4.
Turn right on exiting the metro and walk towards the twin towers. 10 mins walk from metro.

Mar Bella Beach (Marbella Beach) : (Nudist beach) Mar Bella Beach (Marbella Beach) : (Nudist beach)

Mar Bella beach is approximately 500 m long. It is located to the East of the Barcelona coastline and is one of the beaches that came into existence after the urban redevelopment of the coastal area as part of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games preparations.

The users are mainly young people and a significant portion is residents in the Sant Martí district, under whose constituency this beach falls. The Mar Bella beach's public is loyal and numerous, returning every week to this beach which is easily accessible by bicycle, since it is bordered by the cycle track.

The Mar Bella beach has a designated nudist beach area. Next to the Bac de Roda breakwater there is a children's play area and a volleyball court. It is on this breakwater where the Beach Library is set up in July and August.

Other recreational facilities include a basketball net, a skating area, a ping-pong table located on the upper part of the Seafront Walkway, next to the Mar Bella sports centre.

At the Western end of the beach, there is a nautical base where all activities relating to the sea are performed.

How to get there

You'll have a 20 min walk from Poblenou metro station to Bella Beach. Take a map with you as there are no signs to Mar Bella beach from the metro.

Sitges Beaches Sitges Beaches

15 golden fine sand beaches along more than 2.5 miles of coast in the city centre (and other 7 beaches in the rest of the municipal district) make Sitges one of the best places in the Mediterranean to sunbathe and enjoy the sea. The European Union honors every year Sitges' beaches with several blue flags, at the time as the Catalan Autonomous Government (Generalitat de Cataluña) does credit to the good-quality and environmental health of the waters enjoyed by bathers. Because of this, tourists christened Sitges as "The Golden Beach of the Mediterranean sea" years ago already.

A list of the Sitges’ beaches follows below:

Behind the "Atlántida" discotheque:
Beach of "Roses"
Beach of "L'Home Mort" (nudist beach)
Beach of "Les Coves"
Beach of "Cap dels Grills"

Along the Sitges seaside promenade:
Beach of "Les Anquines" (beside the "Playa Golf" Aparthotel)
Beach of "Terramar"
Beach of "La Barra"
Beach of "La Riera Xica"
Beach of "L'Estanyol"
Beach of "La Bassa Rodona"
Beach of "La Ribera"
Beach of "La Fragata"

Behind the church:
Beach of "San Sebastián"

Beside the "Aiguadolç" marina:
Beach of "Els Balmins" (nudist beach)
Beach of "Aiguadolç"

Between Sitges and Castelldefels:
"Cala Forn" cove
"Cala Vallcarca" cove
"Vallcarca" beach
"Cala Morisca" cove
"Garraf" beach
"Cala Ginesta" cove
"Les Botigues" beach

Sitges' beaches mostly boast any kind of services for bathers such as lifeguards, public toilets, swim conditions signs (flags of different colors), sun lounges rental, and so on. Nearly all architectural barriers have been removed, making beaches accessible to all bathers. Besides, "L'Estanyol" beach boasts a Red Cross first-aid post.

Some beaches offer little sailing boats, jet-skis, pedal boats, windsurfing boards and other vessels to rent. Other ones, like the beaches of " La Fragata" and " La Bassa Rodona", often set up sporting activities like beach volleyball games or Aqua-Gym master classes. It's difficult even for the most demanding bather not to enjoy the splendid beaches of Sitges to the maximum.
This beach is outside Barcelona and you'll need to catch a train from Sants station - journey time approximate 30 mins.
All of Barcelona Spain beaches are clean and well maintained. The sea water is clear and great for taking a swim.
